REGINA, Sask. – Hockey Saskatchewan announces that Tim Hubic will step down as Chair of the Board of Directors effective August 31, 2024, marking the conclusion of his dedicated service to the organization.

Hubic, who has served on the Hockey Saskatchewan Board for 16 years and as Chair since 2020, has been pivotal in guiding the association through major challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and significant governance reforms.

The Weyburn native first joined the Board as a Zone 2 representative in 2005. After a brief hiatus, Hubic returned as a Director in 2009, dedicating over a decade to advancing hockey in Saskatchewan. His leadership has been crucial in navigating complex issues and fostering the sport's growth across the province.

As Hockey Saskatchewan enters the 2024-25 season, Edward Watson will assume the role of Board Chairperson. The Eston native brings extensive experience and leadership, positioning him well to guide the association into its next chapter.

"Tim’s leadership has been instrumental in strengthening our association," said Kelly McClintock, General Manager of Hockey Saskatchewan. "His unwavering commitment to transparency, governance, and our mission has left a lasting legacy. We are deeply grateful for his service and wish him the best in his future endeavours. Hockey Saskatchewan also looks forward to working with Edward Watson, who, having previously served as a Director, brings a deep understanding of our Board and will help us navigate the exciting next chapter."

Shaping Character for Life… More Than a Game.

Tim Hubic shared his reflections on his time with the Board in a recent interview:

What will you miss the most from your time on the board?

“I will undoubtedly miss the people from across our province who are involved with the game, including many Board members and our staff. The volunteers are what make hockey special in Saskatchewan.”

What are you most proud of during your tenure?

“Several team efforts stand out to me, but the changes in the association's governance are particularly significant. In recent years, especially during my time as Chairperson, we faced the pandemic and the challenges related to Hockey Canada's controversies. Throughout these difficult times, our team at Hockey Saskatchewan came together to keep the game going for our families.

These challenging situations ultimately made our association stronger. Today, the Board is healthier than ever, with incredible Directors in place. Led by Edward, a great mix of experienced and new Directors is well-positioned to advance the Vision, Mission, and Values of the association. I look forward to seeing the great things the Board and staff will achieve moving forward.”

Why should someone consider joining the board of directors?

“Joining the Board is a wonderful way to give back to the game, especially to the youth in our province—it's a bit of a cliché, but it's true. The Board operates on a principle-based, Policy Governance model, always striving to be transparent and to improve in everything it does.

Board members have the direct ability to make meaningful improvements and to ensure that our members receive exceptional value in their hockey experiences, benefiting all participants and communities.”
