Welcome to Hockey Saskatchewan's U11 webpage! We are thrilled to extend a warm welcome to all our dedicated members, talented players, and passionate coaches. This division marks a significant milestone as our U11 players will be experiencing the Full-Ice format.

As we embark on this journey, Hockey Saskatchewan aims to foster a positive and enriching environment for all involved. Our coaches are here to guide and support these budding talents, ensuring that they thrive both on and off the ice. We believe that this season will be a fantastic learning experience for everyone involved, where camaraderie, sportsmanship, and the love of the game will flourish.

We encourage all our members to embrace the season ahead, make lifelong memories, and take advantage of every opportunity to learn and grow. Here's to another successful U11 season, where we'll witness these young stars shine brighter than ever!

THE TRANSITION TO U11 FULL-ICE HOCKEY

  • U11 is the golden age of skill development. This is the best window athletically to enhance a player’s skills for the rest of their hockey playing days.
  • It is also the age when they can start retaining information as they transfer into gameplay and begin to understand the game at higher levels.

Three key components of U11 Hockey are:

  1. Quality practice: Fun, players should always be moving, really working lots on skating, passing and all fundamental skills and still a heavy emphasis on small are games. Practices should always be fun, no fun no future.
  2. Important practice-to-game ratio: Should be 3 to 1 practice to games at U11.
  3. Developing Athletes First: We would strongly encourage multisport at this age. Think of multisport as a early form off dryland or off-ice training for young athletes. As they use different muscles with different sport this will improve them athletically and for hockey in the future while avoiding burnout as they age.

This is where through these initiatives they can transition what they have learned through small-area games into the previous levels as they transition to games and start to make decisions on the ice and really start to develop their hockey sense.

They will start to learn special awareness along with their decision-making.
