50 Saskatchewan-born Players Selected in 2022 WHL Draft

REGINA, Sask. – The 2022 Western Hockey League Draft concluded on Thursday, May 19, 2022, with this year’s draft highlighting 2007-born eligible players.
The WHL Draft is an opportunity for young players to take the next step in their hockey development and set their sights toward a future NHL Entry Draft down the road.
The first Saskatchewan-born player to hear their name called was Cole Reschny (Macklin) of the Northern Alberta Xtreme U15 Prep who was taken 3rd overall by the Victoria Royals. The following pick, another member of Northern Alberta Xtreme U15 Prep in Reese Hamilton (Whitewood), was selected by the Calgary Hitmen. In total, Saskatchewan had six players chosen in the first round. Rounding out the six 1st round picks were Lee Shurgot (Saskatoon) at #9, Joby Baumuller (Wilcox) at #12, Luke Moroz (Regina) at #15, and Isaac Poll (White City) at #21.
When the final round concluded, Saskatchewan was fortunate to have 50 players selected overall. In comparison to the 2021 WHL Draft which saw a total of 41 players selected.
