Sask First Male Under-15 (U15)
Male Under-15 Program
The Sask First Male Under-15 Program, which transitions into the Male Under-16 program, plays a key role in selecting Team Saskatchewan for competition at both western and national levels. It provides a platform for players to develop their skills and compete at an elite level, preparing them for higher stages of the game and helping them pursue their hockey ambitions.
The Sask First Program promotes a team concept, focusing on the pursuit of shared goals. It is stressed that while personal goals are important, they must be pursued within the team environment, where no individual is more important than the team. Team success is achieved when all members contribute their talents, skills, and energy toward the team’s goals.
Hockey Saskatchewan's high-performance program begins each December with regional camps held across the province, open to all players in the U15 category. From there, the top players are invited to participate in the Sask First Tournament in December (top 160), followed by a second tournament in February (top 80). At that point, 25-30 players are selected to attend the upcoming summer/fall camps. This process not only gives players the opportunity to compete with their peers but also provides significant exposure, as Sask First events are highly attended by scouts from various elite leagues. Additionally, the Sask First Program serves as a gateway to Hockey Canada’s High Performance Program, which includes National Teams such as the World Juniors.
The Sask First Program also honors tradition and respects the past. Successes such as the gold-medal performances at the 2019 WHL Cup, the 1995 Canada Winter Games, the 1998 Western International Under-17 Hockey Challenge, and the 2004 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge serve as benchmarks and inspiration for future achievements.
