GULL LAKE, Sask. - At the beginning of the season, it was announced that Hockey Day in Saskatchewan would take place in Gull Lake from January 14 to 20, 2019. The slogan 'One Rink, One Dream,' became a rallying point for the host committee. With the hard work from volunteers, the community responded and brought together a fantastic event this past January.
The Saskatchewan Hockey Association (SHA) and the Gull Lake Host Committee are excited to announce the total funds raised at Hockey Day in Saskatchewan, 2019. Once all the games were done and all the events complete, the total profit from the entire week-long celebration was $128,000. The funds raised will assist in renovations and upkeep of the Gull Lake Skating Rink.
“A deep collective sigh could be heard from the [organizing] team. This was not an exhausted, thank goodness it is over, but an overwhelming feeling of pride and satisfaction of a job well done!” - Gull Lake Host Committee, Tracey Stenson and Sara Kuntz
Hockey Day in Saskatchewan – 2019, featured a variety of events, from ninja warrior to scavenger hunts and fireworks to hockey, the event had something for everyone. Appreciation must be given to all players, coaches, officials and volunteers who made this event possible. Our special guest speaker, Dennis Hull, for keeping the crowd entertained at the Banquet. Finally, all the gracious sponsors that assisted in making this dream a reality with their time and funding. The annual Hockey Day in Saskatchewan event continues to showcase why the rink is the heart of every Saskatchewan community!
The 2019 event marked the 11th host community for Hockey Day in Saskatchewan since its inception in 2008. Hockey Day in Saskatchewan is awarded to a different community each year to help raise funds for the local arena. The event is a partnership between the Saskatchewan Hockey Association and the host community.
