REGINA, Sask. – Hockey Saskatchewan is excited to announce the third edition of the Minor Hockey Association (MHA) Matching Grant Program, returning for the 2024-25 season. This program offers financial support to MHAs to help with the costs of hiring power skating instructors or training local individuals to aid in player development.

All 183 registered MHAs are eligible to apply for matching funds of up to $1,000. Funded by proceeds from the IIHF World Junior Championship 50/50 draws, this grant continues to focus on developing foundational skating skills for young players in Saskatchewan.

The previous two editions of the program, in 2020-21 and 2023-24, successfully distributed $212,000 to MHAs across the province, supporting their efforts to improve skater development.

“This third edition of the grant underscores our commitment to supporting grassroots skating across the province,” said Kelly McClintock, General Manager of Hockey Saskatchewan. “Skating is the key to player development, and this grant helps ensure that MHAs can provide quality instruction that builds confidence, skill, and a lifelong love for the game.”

The grant supports power skating programs for players in the Under-7 to Under-13 age groups, with eligible activities taking place between September 1, 2024, and December 31, 2024.

All power skating instructors must hold Hockey Saskatchewan-approved certifications by December 31, 2024, to qualify.
