BALGONIE, Sask. – Hockey Saskatchewan, in collaboration with the Western Hockey League (WHL), is thrilled to announce the return of the eagerly awaited Sask First Male Under-15 (U15) Top 80 Tournament, set to unfold from February 16 to 18, 2024, in the charming town of Balgonie, Sask.

This annual event, now a cherished tradition in Saskatchewan, once again graces the Balgonie Arena, drawing talented young hockey enthusiasts from every corner of the province. It serves as a premier platform for these rising stars to exhibit their prowess and vie against the finest competition.

Following evaluations during the Male U15 Top 160 Tournament in December 2023, a select cohort of 80 players emerged as contenders for the upcoming tournament. This group will be reshaped into four teams, ready to engage in a riveting round-robin competition under the guidance of Sask First coaches.

Kicking off on the afternoon of Friday, Feb. 16, the tournament will feature a series of thrilling matches throughout the weekend, culminating in the highly anticipated finals slated for Sunday morning.

Beyond the thrill of competition, this tournament holds significant implications as the third phase in the selection process for Team Saskatchewan’s upcoming season. Following the Top 80 Tournament, the most promising 25-32 players will be selected to participate in Summer and Fall camps, ultimately leading to the final assembly of 20 athletes who will proudly represent their province at the prestigious 2024 WHL Cup in October.

More than just a showcase of talent, the Sask First program presents a golden opportunity for players to refine their skills and catch the discerning eyes of scouts from various leagues, including the WHL. Representatives from the 22 junior clubs will be present, meticulously assessing players for the upcoming 2024 WHL Prospects Draft.
