Team Manitoba Topples Saskatchewan

CALGARY, Alta. – Nolan Patrick scored four goals, including three in the first period, to lead Team Manitoba to a 5-2 victory over Team Saskatchewan in the final round robin contest of the 2013 Western Canada Under-16 Challenge Cup on Saturday afternoon at Father David Bauer Arena in Calgary, AB.
Eric Lavoie also scored for Manitoba, who opened up a 4-0 lead by the 13:21 mark of the opening frame, while Ty Lewis and Vince Loschiavo each picked up two assists. Brett Evans turned aside 30 of 32 shots he faced to post the win for Manitoba, who finish the round robin with a 1-2 record.
Gage Ramsay scored both goals for Team Saskatchewan, who finish the round robin portion of the tournament with an 0-3 record. Declan Hobbs made 16 saves on 20 shots in the first period to take the loss while Colby Entz stopped 13 of 14 shots he faced the rest of the way in relief.
Manitoba and Saskatchewan will meet up again on Sunday morning in the Bronze medal game (9:30 am MT).
