REGINA, Sask. – Hockey Saskatchewan is set to host its annual Sask First Female Under-16 (U16) Tournament from April 4-6, 2024, at the Co-operators Centre in Regina. This high-performance event marks the second phase of the Sask First program and brings together some of the province’s most promising young athletes.
The tournament lineup features players born in 2010 and 2011, who earned their spots after competing in Regional Camps held in Dalmeny and Pense. From an initial field of 136 players, these rising stars will now take the next step in their development.
The action kicks off on Friday, April 4, with team practices before an exciting round-robin competition featuring eight teams. All games and practices will take place on Rinks 1 and 6 at the Co-operators Centre. The event wraps up on Sunday, April 6, with final matchups divided into A, B, C, and D categories.

The Sask First program is designed to foster player development and provide exposure to scouts from leagues such as the Saskatchewan Female U18 “AAA” Hockey League (SFU18AAAHL). Following the tournament, 40 standout athletes will be invited to the Sask First summer camp in August 2025. From there, two teams of 20 players will be selected to represent Team Saskatchewan at the Female U16 AAA Showcase Tournament in the fall, where they will compete against SFU18AAAHL teams.
A total of 16 referees and linespersons will officiate the Sask First tournament under the supervision and evaluation of experienced officials and Saskatchewan Officiating Development Model (SODM) official coaches.
The Minor Female Hockey Development Model ensures standardized province-wide progression for players, from grassroots to elite levels.
In mid-April, Sask First will host the 2024-25 program’s Female Under-18 Top 80 tournament in Balgonie.
