In this episode of Around the Rink, Hockey Saskatchewan’s Blaine Stork sits down with Kim Perepeluk, coaching facilitator and mentor, to discuss the importance of teaching body checking. Kim offers thoughts on developing checking skills, keeping players safe through proper technique, and how perspectives on physical play have shifted. He also touches on key fundamentals to develop before contact, preparing Under-13 players for the transition to full body checking at the Under-15 level, and how coaches can teach respect and confidence through contact.
