33 Saskatchewan-Born Players Selected in 2026 WHL Prospects Draft

REGINA, Sask. – The two-day Western Hockey League (WHL) Prospects Draft concluded on Thursday, May 7, 2026, with this year’s draft highlighting 20011-born eligible players.

The WHL Prospects Draft is an opportunity for young players to take the next step in their hockey development and set their sights toward a future NHL Entry Draft down the road.

The first Saskatchewan-born player to hear their name called was Cullen Stephensen (Warman) of the Under-15 AA Warman Wildcats who was taken 10th overall by the Portland Winterhawks. With the 11th pick, Jax Bubnick (Saskatoon) was selected by the Seattle Thunderbirds. In total, Saskatchewan had five players chosen in the first round. Rounding out the first-round picks were Wyatt Bitz (Saskatoon) at #13, Danny Ramazanov (Saskatoon) at #17, and Rylan Edwards (Regina) at #18.

When the final round concluded, Saskatchewan had 33 players selected overall. In comparison, the province saw a total of 36 players selected in the 2025 WHL Prospects Draft and 45 were selected the previous year.

Of the 33 players selected, 25 took part in the Sask First Male Under-15 program this season on Team Saskatchewan’s journey to the 2027 Canada Winter Games in Quebec.
