REGINA, Sask. – Hockey Saskatchewan announced on Sept. 9, 2022, that a total of 24 players have been selected for Saskatchewan Development Model (SDM) Scholarships from the 2021-22 season.
The game of hockey provides many teachable moments and some equally valuable life lessons within the rink. In addition to these on-ice experiences, Hockey Saskatchewan and SDM Partners recognize the importance of a strong educational foundation and bestow academic scholarships to members who meet the application criteria.
The SDM Partners (Hockey Saskatchewan; Saskatchewan Male Under-18 AAA Hockey League; Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League; and the Western Hockey League) award twenty-four (24) $1,000.00 scholarships annually to members of the Hockey Saskatchewan registered at the U18 AAA and/or Junior A Level (one (1) per each SMU18AAAHL and SJHL team).

Players may attend any credited post-secondary institution or career-enhancing program of their choice, including trade schools or professional career training programs in Canada. In the case of players who have played and earned education benefits from the WHL, the SDM benefits shall be in addition to the WHL benefits and shall revert to WHL criteria.
The 2021-22 season serves as the 12th year of the SDM Scholarship Program. Established on a Saskatchewan-wide basis in 2010-11, over 160 scholarships have been awarded, representing an investment of over $162,000 by Hockey Saskatchewan/SDM Partners.
The SDM Scholarship Fund was created with $250,000 of the profits from the 2010 World Junior Hockey Championship hosted by Saskatoon/Regina.
