Saskatchewan Development Model Recognizes Scholars for Commitment to Education and Hockey

REGINA, Sask. – Hockey Saskatchewan takes pride in congratulating twenty-three exceptional players selected for the prestigious Saskatchewan Development Model (SDM) Scholarships for the 2022-23 season.

The world of hockey provides invaluable life lessons both on and off the ice. Recognizing the significance of a solid educational foundation, Hockey Saskatchewan and its SDM partners are thrilled to award academic scholarships to deserving members who meet the criteria.

Collaborating closely with partners including the Saskatchewan Male Under-18 AAA Hockey League, Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, and the Western Hockey League, SDM strives to bestow twenty-four (24) $1,000.00 scholarships annually to Hockey Saskatchewan members participating in the U18 AAA and/or Junior A Level – one (1) scholarship per each SMAAAHL and SJHL team.

Congratulations to the following remarkable Hockey Saskatchewan members who have earned the 2022-23 SDM Scholarships along with their hometowns in brackets:

Recipients are free to choose any accredited post-secondary institution or career-enhancing program, including trade schools or professional career training programs in Canada. For players who have already benefited from education support in the WHL, SDM scholarships complement those benefits and align with WHL criteria.

The 2022-23 season marks the 13th year of the SDM Scholarship Program, which was established province-wide during the 2010-11 season. Over 180 scholarships have been awarded, amounting to a cumulative investment of $185,000 by Hockey Saskatchewan and its SDM partners.

The SDM Scholarship Fund was established with $250,000 from the profits generated by the 2010 World Junior Hockey Championship hosted by Saskatoon and Regina.
