NORTH BATTLEFORD, Sask. The Battlefords North Stars are pleased to announce that Garry Childerhose has been promoted to become the new Head Coach & GM for the Battlefords North Stars.

Childerhose, a 34-year-old native of Battleford, joined the Stars' coaching staff prior to the 2021-22 season as an Assistant Coach. After his first season, he earned the designation of Associate Coach alongside Klimosko, where he then helped lead the Stars to an SJHL Championship & National Silver Medal.

President Kyle Kellgren had nothing but positive remarks to make, “As President, I am very proud to have Garry Childerhose (Chilly) take over as Head Coach & GM of our team. Having a hometown boy who played his minor hockey career in the Battlefords is a very special moment for our board and our community.”

Prior to his coaching career, Garry played the majority of his junior career with the Melfort Mustangs before moving on to SUNY-Geneseo to play NCAA Division III hockey, where he spent four seasons. His coaching career started immediately after completing school as an Assistant Coach for the Flin Flon Bombers, where he also transitioned into the role of Assistant GM. Childerhose spent a total of five seasons there before ending up back home in the Battlefords.

Childerhose is excited at the opportunity to lead the next wave of Battlefords North Stars in his hometown and will lean on his existing relationships with veterans on the team and the staff throughout the organization. “I’m honoured and excited for the opportunity to be the next Head Coach and General Manager for the Battlefords North Stars,” said Childerhose. “Working with, and learning from, two great coaches and CJHL Coaches of the Year, Brayden Klimosko and Mike Reagan, for the past eight seasons has been tremendous for my growth as a coach, and I couldn’t be more grateful.” In reflection, Chilly had to say, “Being a Battlefords local, I began coming to the games at the age of 2, and that’s where my love for the game took off. I’m thankful for the opportunity and take great pride in representing the community of the Battlefords and the North Stars organization.”
