Stanley Cup champion Ryan Getzlaf is heading to the rafters- again!

The Anaheim Ducks legend will see his number 15 retired in a ceremony at Honda Center on January 30, 2027

“Ryan Getzlaf’s impact on the Ducks will be felt for generations to come,” Ducks Owners Henry and Susan Samueli said in a statement. “While no player in club history played more games or scored more points, it’s his leadership, championship DNA, and community contributions we will remember most. He’s a legacy player who rightfully will have his jersey hung alongside Teemu Selanne, Paul Kariya and Scott Niedermayer at Honda Center.”

In the preceding home game, the Ducks will also commemorate the team’s 2007 Stanley Cup win.

“My family and I are so grateful to the Samuelis and the Ducks organization for this incredible honour,” Getzlaf said. “None of this would be possible without all the amazing teammates, coaches and support staff I had in my career. I thank them all and can’t wait to celebrate in front of our great fans in January.”

The Regina, Sask. product spent 17 seasons with the Ducks, including 12 campaigns as captain.

In addition to his 2007 Stanley Cup win, Getzlaf tallied 1,019 points (282G-737A) over 1,157 regular-season matches, standing as Anaheim’s all-time leader in games played, points and assists.

On the international stage, he earned five gold medals (2010 and 2014 Winter Olympic Games, 2016 World Cup of Hockey, the 2005 IIHF World Junior Championship and 2003 IIHF U18 World Championship) before retiring in 2022.

He’ll join fellow WHL alumni Scott Niedermayer (Kamloops Blazers), Teemu Selanne and Paul Kariya in the Honda Center rafters.

Getzlaf’s banner also hangs in the Scotiabank Saddledome, where he played with the Calgary Hitmen from 2001-05 and was the first inductee to the ‘Forever a Hitmen’ program in 2015.

He was originally selected by the Hitmen with the 54th overall pick in the 2000 WHL Bantam Draft as a small, skilled forward, but notoriously shot up by almost six inches by the time he joined the club as a 16-year-old.

Eventually growing into a 6-foot-3, 227-pound frame, Getzlaf dished out 215 points (95G-120A) in 233 regular-season games- and plenty of thunderous hits to go with.

As part of the league’s 50th season celebrations, Getzlaf ranked 25th on the WHL’s Top 50 Players of All Time list.
