After capturing gold with Team Canada at the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship, defencemen Nolan Allan and Kevin Korchinski have paired up to receive the January Athlete of the Month award.

Allan and Korchinski – the only Saskatchewan-born players on Team Canada – won the gold medal with a 3-2 overtime victory over Czechia on Jan. 5. In the tournament, both defencemen played in all seven games for Canada with Nolan registering a goal and an assist, while Kevin collected a goal and three assists.

Allan and Korckinski currently play with the Western Hockey League’s Seattle Thunderbirds and they are also each first round draft picks by the National Hockey League’s Chicago Blackhawks (Nolan in 2021, Kevin in 2022). Both previously suited up for Team Saskatchewan and are graduates of Hockey Saskatchewan’s Sask First high-performance program.

Allan and Korchinski were nominated by Hockey Saskatchewan.

Other Nominee:

  • Luca Veeman, speed skating, nominated by Saskatchewan Amateur Speed Skating Association
