A Historic Night: The Saskatchewan Junior Female Hockey League's 1st Game

GULL LAKE, Sask. – October 7, 2023, marked a historic night in Gull Lake as 33 female players participated in the first Saskatchewan Junior Female Hockey League (SJFHL) game. The Southwest Impact hosted the Lumsden Lynx in an exciting season opener.
The game featured several notable firsts:
- First win: Lumsden claimed an 8-0 victory.
- First goal: Kaleigh Tress (Lumsden) scored at 16:45 of the first period. She finished the night with four points.
- First penalty: Abbie Noble (Impact).
- First shutout: Payton Schlamp (Lumsden) stopped all 17 shots.
The Lynx goal scorers included Tress with two goals, and singles from Tori McNabb, Sara Lajeunesse, Hannah Sexsmith, Abigail Reimer-Golden, Nikita Schmidt, and Brooklyn Hextall. Lumsden was assessed five of the nine minor penalties in the game.
Next weekend, the remaining four teams in the league will begin their seasons.
The season will conclude in Outlook on March 9 and 10, 2024, with championship weekend, where one team will skate away with the Bourgault Cup.
