REGINA, Sask. – The Regina Pats Hockey Club has partnered with Rodger Ross and Quentin Karmark of 4 Claws Inc. to design Indigenous-themed jerseys that the Pats will wear during their Indigenous Celebration Night on February 7 against the Wenatchee Wild at the Brandt Centre.
The Indigenous Night jerseys feature a unique and culturally significant Star Blanket design. The vibrant jerseys are inspired by the powerful symbol of the Star Blanket — an emblem that represents respect, honor, and community within Indigenous culture.
The design of the jerseys is centered around an eight-point star, a symbol that holds deep meaning in Indigenous traditions. Known as the symbol for the Morning Star, it represents the beginning of a new day, signifying life given by the Creator. The eight-point star also serves to honor, protect, and celebrate the individual. The incorporation of this symbol into the jersey’s design emphasizes both the shared values of hockey and Indigenous culture, highlighting the themes of harmony and unity.
Rodger W. Ross, a Métis/Cree member of the George Gordon First Nation in Saskatchewan, is an award-winning multimedia producer, director, and writer with over 30 years of experience in the film and video industry. He is also recognized as a Traditional Storyteller dedicated to preserving the Oral Traditions of his people. Ross, alongside Quentin Karmark, a seasoned graphic designer and illustrator, has collaborated on numerous Indigenous projects for more than two decades. Karmark’s work spans print design, typography, illustration, and various communications roles. Together, they co-founded 4 Claws, a local design and consulting agency.
The jersey’s design blends the Regina Pats team colors with the intricate Star Blanket pattern, creating a striking and culturally rich look. Bold lines and symmetrical shapes further symbolize the unity and balance that hockey and Indigenous traditions both represent. The overall result is a striking jersey that is as meaningful as it is visually appealing.
“Each year we strive to grow our Indigenous Celebration Night in an effort to highlight and celebrate Indigenous traditions and culture,” said Regina Pats CEO Gordon Pritchard. “As we began planning for this year’s game night, we wanted to bring greater awareness to Indigenous art and culture and thought what better way than with an Indigenous themed jersey designed by local Indigenous artists. Through our partnership with George Gordon Developments Ltd., we were connected with Rodger and Quentin of 4 Claws Inc. to design a one-of-a-kind jersey. We are extremely proud of the Star Blanket jersey designed by Rodger and Quentin. It will be an honour for the Pats to wear this jersey on Indigenous Celebration Night.”
These jerseys will be auctioned off after the game on February 7 with net proceeds benefiting the SCEP Centre Society of Regina Early Intervention & Training Services. To place a bid, CLICK HERE! The auction will close on February 7 at 8pm CST.
“Quentin and I are honoured to have been asked to design the Indigenous inspired Jerseys for the Regina Pats Organization,” said Rodger Ross “Being a Regina boy and member of George Gordon First Nation, I am especially proud.”
In addition to the unique jerseys that will be worn on the ice, the game-pucks that will be used for this game will feature a Star Blanket design. There will also be Star Blanket themed t-shirts available for purchase from the Pats Store.
